NORRISTOWN – A Philadelphia man will be on probation for about three years after admitting to illegally carrying a firearm in Norristown, a crime police discovered during a traffic stop in the neighborhood.

David Adams-Wright, 21, of the 5700 block of Rodman Street, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 11.5 to 23 months in the county jail after pleading guilty to felony charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, receiving stolen property and conspiracy. for receiving stolen property in connection with a July 2023 incident in Norristown.

Judge Steven T. O’Neill ordered Adams-Wright to complete one year of probation following parole, meaning Adams-Wright will be under court supervision for about three years.

An investigation began around 4:30 a.m. July 20 when Norristown police observed a Kia Sportage vehicle traveling westbound on West Marshall Street with three occupants inside wearing masks. Police determined the vehicle’s registration was expired and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 500 block of Markley Street, according to a criminal complaint.

The male driver of the vehicle told police he did not have a driver’s license and was detained.

Adams-Wright was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle, and police observed that she had a small zippered bag on her chest.

“When asked if he had any weapons on him, he said, ‘I have protection on me,'” Norristown Police Officer Richard DeStefano said in the arrest affidavit, referring to Adams-Wright. “Police found a gray Ruger 9mm semi-automatic handgun in the bag.”

The gun was registered to a relative of Adams-Wright’s, police determined.

With the charges, police claimed Adams-Wright did not have a license to carry a concealed weapon.

A third man in the back passenger seat was the subject of an active warrant out of Philadelphia, according to court documents.

During the investigation, police determined the vehicle occupied by the three men had been reported stolen in Philadelphia, according to the arrest affidavit.
