Cocaine found on mannequins after little boy rushed to hospital with drugs in his system

A sick child was found to have cocaine in his system, while drug traces were found on two mannequins.

The four-week-old baby was rushed to hospital after being ‘injured’ at a property in Pollokshaws, Glasgow, on May 22, 2023.

He had been looked after at the time by Yasmin Mazur, Connor McBride, aged 27 and 29.

A police search found traces of drugs on mannequins that were kept in the kitchen and living room.

Manzur and McBride pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday to causing the boy unnecessary suffering or harm.

McBride also pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of cocaine.

The court heard that Mazur woke up to find the child sick at 4.30am and an ambulance was called.

The boy was taken to the hospital, where his condition worsened, and he was placed on an incubator and ventilator.

Prosecutor Danielle McGuinness said: “A urine sample was taken and tested positive for cocaine.”

The hospital contacted the police and a search warrant was issued for the property.

Manzur told officers he “didn’t know how this happened,” while McBride was unwilling to cooperate without legal counsel.

A search took place in the early hours of May 24.

Miss McGuinness said: “Stobs were taken from the kitchen, coffee table and bedside table which had traces of cocaine.

“Two mannequins were found on the kitchen counter and in the living room.

“They were taken for analysis and contained an unquantified amount of cocaine.”

Manzur, now of Newton Mearns, and McBride were both arrested and later gave “no comment” interviews.

The hearing was told the baby suffered no long-term harm.

Gemma Elder, defending first offender Manzur, told the court her client had lost her job of six years at a construction company because of the “unknown outcome” of the case.

Garvey McArdle, defending McBride, said his client was now studying to become a drug counsellor.

Sentencing was adjourned until next month by Sheriff Tony Kelly, who granted the pair bail.

He said: “The court is considering custody for both of them – I shouldn’t pre-judge the outcome before I get the reports.

“You both put the child in grave danger.”
