OPD: Owensboro man arrested on 101 counts of child pornography

A 34-year-old Owensboro man has been charged with 101 counts of possession of child pornography, according to the Owensboro Police Department.

According to OPDa detective with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) within OPD’s Criminal Investigations Division received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding child sexual abuse material.

The investigation led to multiple search warrants that identified Ryan Greer as a possible suspect, according to a release. On Nov. 11, OPD patrol officers located Greer who had an outstanding but unrelated warrant for his arrest. During this arrest, evidence related to the ongoing ICAC investigation was seized for analysis, according to the release.

On Nov. 14, detectives and patrol officers located Greer in the 1400 block of Triplett Street, according to OPD. He was charged with several crimes related to the original investigation, and additional evidence was seized at that time.

On Nov. 21, Greer received numerous additional charges after completing a forensic analysis of the most recently seized evidence, the release said.

Greer was arrested and booked into the Daviess County Detention Center on the following charges, according to OPD:

• Distribution of subjects that present a sexual performance by minors under 12 (1 count)
• Possession or viewing of material depicting a sexual performance by a minor under the age of 12 (1 count)
• Unlawful use of electronic means originating or received in the Commonwealth to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited activities (10 counts)
• Promoting a sexual performance by a minor – under 16 (10 points)
• Distribution of material depicting a sexual performance by a minor under 12 (4 points)
• Possession or viewing of material depicting a sexual performance by a minor 12 years of age or older (3 points)
• Possession or viewing of material depicting a sexual performance by a minor under the age of 12 (61 points)
• Distribution of material featuring a sexual performance by a minor 12 years of age or older (1 count)
• Distribution of subjects that present a sexual performance by minors under 12 (1 count)
• Distribution of obscene material to minors first offense (9 counts)

This is an ongoing investigation that may lead to the identity of other perpetrators or additional charges, the statement said.
