A man accused of firing a gun at a central London strip club pleaded guilty Thursday to assaulting a bar employee.

Kwabena Andrew Anhwere, 42, pleaded guilty to assaulting a Solid Gold employee on April 29 and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, the equivalent of 20 days spent in pre-trial detention, and received 18 months trial.

Several other weapons charges against Anhwere, who remains in custody, have been referred to Ontario Superior Court.

An agreed statement of facts was read into the file describing the events leading up to the attack on the member of staff at the Dundas Street bar, one of two remaining strip clubs in the city.

Anhwere, who was known to several workers at the strip club, was at the bar when he approached an employee and put his hand near her legs, prompting her to hit his hand, the court heard.

Anhwere hit her before he was kicked out of the bar, the court heard.

“My client is celebrating his birthday tonight. On this night, he was quite drunk. Obviously he’s not offering an excuse or any kind of defense, but there were a lot of things going on that night and unfortunately my client overreacted,” said defense attorney Aaron Prevost.
