Cairo Restaurant & Bar’s liquor license could be in jeopardy

FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – The liquor license for Cairo Restaurant and Bar in south Fargo could be in jeopardy. This comes after another violation of the restaurant serving alcohol after hours.

When they first openedthe owner is committed to transforming the once-nightclub hotspot into a family-friendly restaurant.

Police responded to the bar three times in Julyand at the Nov. 20 Liquor Control Board meeting, Fargo Police say the bar hosted an after-hours concert in October.

A police report was submitted to the county attorney, and the bar’s owner, Heba Ismail, was charged with the offense of allowing alcohol after hours.

Liquor board members asked if more needs to be done to ensure Cairo Restaurant and Bar complies with the city’s ordinance.

“We’re doing as well as we can,” captain Matt Christensen said. “They can be open provided they don’t serve alcohol. Our officers have made a very conscious effort to make sure we go through there to make sure they follow their rules of being legal.

Council member Rob Nelson asked, “So you said they’re having a concert, is this concert at three in the morning?”

Captain Christensen replied, “Yes, in the bar.”

Dave Piepkorn chimed in saying, “I don’t go to many concerts at three in the morning, Rob, but I guess as long as they don’t serve alcohol, they’re allowed to.” Piepkorn goes on to say, “I think it’s something that maybe we’ll have to deal with in the future, especially if you had this in a neighborhood where this kind of thing was happening.”

On Monday’s City Commission agenda, they say they will discuss the liquor license suspension and revocation agreement with Cairo Restaurant and Bar.
