Former Holy Trinity teacher accused of supplying alcohol to students

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A former teacher at Holy Trinity Catholic School in Louisville has been accused of providing alcohol to several of her former underage students.

Grace A. Barnes, 26, of Louisville, was charged Wednesday with unlawful transaction with a minor, according to an arrest citation.

The citation says LMPD’s Crimes Against Children Unit received a tip Aug. 6 that Barnes gave several students a ride from a game and offered them alcohol. Citations say Barnes taught some of the students at Holy Trinity Catholic School.

According to police, Barnes allegedly took a 14-year-old student and several other students to the Speedway gas station at 2720 Taylorsville Road. She then allegedly bought two 12-packs of twisted teas for the students and gave them cups to pour the alcohol into.

Police say video surveillance verified the report and showed Barnes buying alcohol on July 27.

The citation says several students reported Barnes for providing them with alcohol.

Dr. Mary Beth Bowling, superintendent of the Archdiocese of Louisville, said Barnes is no longer a teacher at the school and was terminated in June.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
