Emergency sewer work to affect traffic in downtown Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson and officials announced emergency sewer and storm sewer replacements in downtown Augusta starting Friday.

Officials say the work will take place on Eighth Street between Greene Street and Ellis Street.

Mobilization began on Friday and work is expected to be completed on Wednesday, according to officials.

Eighth Street has been reduced to one lane of traffic, but drivers can travel and should proceed with caution, Johnson says.

Additional repair and construction work is taking place on Ellis Street between Seventh and Eighth Streets unrelated to the work being done by the City of Augusta.

Drivers must proceed with caution and obey all posted signs.
