Some Hawaii Islanders have warned of a possible 911 outage this week

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – If you have an emergency late on the night of Nov. 22 on the Big Island, be prepared to call a number other than 911.

Hawaii County Police are warning of a possible service disruption in West Hawaii as Hawaiian Telcom performs scheduled maintenance.

The work will start at 23:59 and will last approximately one hour.

During this time, 911 services may be down, but the public is still advised to call 911 first before trying the following alternatives:

  • Call the police department’s non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311 or the fire department at (808) 961-8336
  • If you are near Kona or Naalehu District Police Stations, call the district station number; Kona (808) 326-4646 ext. 253 or Naalehu (808) 939-2520
  • If you still cannot pass, go to the nearest police or fire station or designated police station (click here for a list of posts and posts)
