A BNP leader was hacked by members of rival party factions while returning to Dhaka after a conference of Bancharampur Upazila BNP in Brahmanbaria today (November 20).

The injured, identified as BNP Executive Committee member Takdir Hossain Md Jasim, was admitted to a hospital in Dhaka with serious injuries.

The incident took place in Radhanagar area of ​​Bancharampur upazila, according to local BNP activists and eyewitnesses.

Locals and party sources said a faction of Bancharampur Upazila BNP held a party conference at Radhanagar Madrasah ground where a new committee of the party’s Bancharampur unit was announced amid protest by a rival faction led by member Abdul Khalek of the BNP executive committee.

At the conference, Central Krishak Dal’s general secretary Mehedi Hasan Palash was announced as the new president of Bancharampur Upazila BNP and KM Musa, the unit secretary, as the general secretary.

Taqdir was a special guest at the conference.

“Abdul Khalek, along with associates of former Awami League MP Tajul Islam, tried their best to thwart the BNP upazila conference. I held the conference on the instructions of the central command. The conference was a success. Taqdir Hossain was assaulted by those who tried to disrupt the conference,” said Sirajul Islam, BNP member secretary of Brahmanbaria.

However, Abdul Khalek said he was not aware of any attack on Taqdir.

“Protests have been going on in Bancharampur ever since preparations were made to hold a conference to exclude grassroots leaders and activists of the party. I don’t know if Taqdir Hossain was attacked or who attacked him. I am in Dhaka,” he said. The business standard.

Tension was already high before the Brahmanbaria conference.

Protests erupted in Bancharampur upazila since morning when the alleged Khalek-led faction opposed the scheduled party conference.

Protesters blocked roads, set ablaze and vandalized a minibus during the protest, causing traffic disruption on the Bancharampur-Homna road near Krishnanagar in Ujanchor union around 10:45 am.

Amid heightened tension between the rival groups, the local government imposed Section 144, restricting public gatherings in and around the grounds of the SM Model Pilot High School, the venue of the conference. The ban will remain in place until tomorrow evening.

Sources said a faction of the BNP upazila called the conference in the school premises this morning. However, the opposing faction accused the organizers of enrolling Awami League members as voters of the conference, sparking a row.
