An undocumented immigrant accused of killing nursing student Laken Riley was found guilty of murder by a Georgia judge on Wednesday.

Prosecutors in the week-long trial alleged that Jose Antonio Ibarra, a Venezuelan national, killed the 22-year-old college student in February after he went “woman hunting” on the University of Georgia campus.

Meanwhile, Ibarra’s lawyers argued that the evidence linking him to Ms Riley’s death was “circumstantial”.

The case has gained national attention as immigration has become a defining issue in the 2024 presidential election.
