Geneva police make burglary arrest after Castle St investigation

A Geneva man was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary following a break-in at a Castle Street business late Monday night.

According to the Geneva Police Department, officers responded to the business around 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 after a report of a burglary. Investigators determined the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Miguel Angel Marin-Torres, forced entry into the establishment and attempted to steal a cash register.

The incident caused more than $2,000 in damage to the door of the business, forcing the establishment to temporarily close the next day.

Detectives identified Marin-Torres as a person of interest on Tuesday, Nov. 19, and took him into custody. During the investigation, officers found a controlled substance in his possession, adding to the charges he faces. Marin-Torres was processed at the Public Safety Building and transported to the Ontario Jail for arraignment.

This isn’t Marin-Torres’ first brush with the law. He was previously arrested for robbing the same business earlier this year on April 4. Additional charges related to this latest incident are pending, police said.
