November 20, 1924: John Schwenk, jailed on a Woodford County murder charge, said the killing of Fred Michaels Sr. it was an accident that’s what happened when he tried to shoot in the air. Schwenk said he became upset with Michaels because the phone line was down and he was trying to call a friend he was hunting with. He denied being drunk, saying he had only had seven or eight glasses of wine, not enough to intoxicate him.

November 20, 1949: Illinois Wesleyan University students with long hair go “the cat” every Friday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m in the school’s Memorial Center grill, where coffee drinkers have a variety of music called “bop.” All performers in unrehearsed sessions are music majors. Arrangements for the sponsored weekly “combo” are being made by Jim Lucas, student union president, in an effort to bring music and liberal arts students together and satisfy bop lovers on campus.

November 20, 1974: University Liquors, 706 W. Beaufort in Normal, decreased its monthly orders of 600 to 700 cases of Gallo wine at the urging of the United Farm Workers Support Coalition. Owner Thomas Blan said he has agreed with the coalition to keep current stock on the shelf but stop ordering until the United Farm Workers union’s dispute with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters over representation of California farmworkers ends.

November 20, 1999: Costs for outpatient procedures at the two Bloomington-Normal hospitals they are below the Central Illinois averageaccording to data from 1997. The figures refute a claim that Dr. Thomas Pilura has won approval from the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board for a new ambulatory surgery center in Normal.
