Princeton will host the Christmas Walk, which kicks off the holiday – local Shaw

PrincetonHis Christmas Walk is scheduled for this weekend, spotlighting local downtown businesses and kicking off the holiday season with seasonal activities.

Stores will be open late until 8pm on Friday 22 November and will be open for normal business hours on 23-24 November.

Saturday’s activities include the Christkindlmarkt at Open Prairie Church, the annual Main Street Elf Hunt, carolers, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, free Main Street trolley rides, reindeer food with Bureau County Farm Bureau, horse-drawn carriages, a fresh greens sale, pottery painting with The Knack, s’mores with Bureau County Senior Center and Handmade for the Holidays at Prairie Arts Gallery. Many of these activities will be centered around the Prouty Building, 435 S. Main St.

The Princeton Lions Club will serve free popcorn in exchange for a donation to the Bureau County Food Pantry. Friends of Strays will also be holding a bake sale.

Christkindlmarkt at Open Prairie Church is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, 25 E. Marion St., behind the Apollo Theater. Coffee, mulled cider, lebkuchen and other German sweets will be sold throughout the day. At 11 a.m., Brathaus in the Square will begin serving a traditional German lunch, three types of soups and mac and cheese. At the International Market Cookie Bazaar, shoppers will be able to select from 25 types of cookies representing 20 countries. The Princeton High School German Club will be selling German Advent calendars.
