A Dhaka court remanded former law minister Anisul Huq for five days in a murder case filed at Uttara East police station and arrested eight others.

The accused were brought to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka under tight security today (November 20), according to media sources.

Besides, Anisul Huq, former advisor to Prime Minister Salman F Rahman, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal president and former information minister Hasanul Haque Inu, former social welfare minister Dipu Moni, former shipping minister Shahjahan Khan, Bangladesh Workers Party president and former private aviation and tourism minister Rashed Khan Menon, former minister of state for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak and former minister of state for industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder were recently arrested in several cases filed at Mohammadpur, Badda, Paltan, Mirpur, Uttara police stations.

A three-day remand of former MP Abdullah Al Islam Jacob in the murder case of Shamim Hawlader of Rupnagar police station.

Earlier on November 18, 13 people out of the 46 accused, in cases of genocide and crimes against humanity committed during the revolution that toppled the Awami League government in July-August this year, were produced before the International Criminal Court.

The 13 accused include former Law Minister Anisul Huq, former Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Faruk Khan, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, former Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, former Minister of State for Posts, Telecommunications and ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former Energy Advisor to former Prime Minister Hasina Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, former Social Welfare Minister Dipu Moni, former Private Industry and Investment Advisor to former Prime Minister Hasina Salman F Rahman, former Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, former Minister of State for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder, former Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, former Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and former interior minister Jahangir Alam.

In total, 55 cases were filed against Anisul Huq. The court has so far granted him 43 days of preventive detention in seven cases.

Police have so far arrested at least 90 people, including several former ministers, government officials, Awami League leaders and journalists.

There are 253 cases against Sheikh Hasina across the country, 48 cases against Salman, 22 cases against Menon, 47 against Palak and 20 against Dipu Moni.
