Laurium man pleads not guilty to charges Jan. 6 | News, Sports, Jobs

WASHINGTON – The Laurium man accused of participating in the Jan. 6 riot entered a not guilty plea to four misdemeanor charges at his arraignment in federal court Tuesday.

Adam Mancuso attended a zoom hearing before Judge Emmet Sullivan in District of Columbia Court.

Mancuso faces the four misdemeanor charges most defendants face since Jan. 6: knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authorization; intent to obstruct or disrupt the orderly conduct of government business or official functions, disorderly conduct in a building or on Capitol grounds; and marching, demonstrating, or picketing a Capitol building.

Six days after the event, FBI agents received tips about selfies Mancuso posted on Facebook that showed the inside of the capitol building. Matching him to images based on a hat with the Hatchetman logo of the Detroit rap group Insane Clown Posse, they identified him at several points inside the Capitol building in two entrances that afternoon, according to court documents.

The case was continued for 90 days.

Tuesday’s hearing comes after the election of former President Donald Trump, who pledged to pardon a “large portion” of Jan. 6 defendants who had been convicted of protesting the certification of his 2020 election rival, President Joe Biden.

A status conference is scheduled to take place on Zoom at 2:00 PM on February 18. With Mancuso’s agreement, the time until the hearing will be excluded from considerations of the constitutional right to a speedy trial.
