NSW Police charge woman with fraud for alleged involvement in organized crime group claiming to be psychic

Police in New South Wales have arrested and charged a woman for her alleged involvement in an organized crime ring that claims to be psychic.

The 48-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday morning at a property in Punchbowl in Sydney’s south-west.

Police seized items believed to be a deck of tarot cards, a crystal ball and a bronze statue.

The woman was taken to Campsie Police Station where she was charged with 13 offences, including identity theft, money laundering, participation in an organized crime group, fraud and tampering with evidence.

The police launched Strike Force Recycling in July 2024 to investigate alleged fraud by several people.

Police were told the alleged criminals, who claimed to be psychic, took money from several victims.

According to police, the group of criminals posing as psychics have been committing crimes in the greater Sydney area since 2006, with four victims identified to date.

“Police will allege that this syndicate pretended to be psychic and during the trial of the victims encouraged them to provide them with property and money, which they obviously kept,” said Detective Inspector Craig Brooks, crime manager from Campsie Police Area Command. .

“We will allege that these criminals took property from their victims and did not return it, in breach of what the victim would have expected when they engaged these services.”

The woman was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday.
