Man charged after deputies find 340 pounds of marijuana during traffic stop in Seward County

SEWARD COUNTY, Neb. (KOLN) – A man is facing charges after deputies found 340 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop in Seward County earlier this month.

On Nov. 7, a Seward County sheriff’s deputy pulled over a white Ford F-250 on eastbound I-80 north of Pleasant Dale for following too closely and driving on the shoulder. The driver identified himself as Jacob Bongers, 47, of Oregon, and said he had personal marijuana in his truck, according to court documents.

The deputy conducted a probable cause search of Bongers’ vehicle and found in the bed of the truck several cardboard boxes containing heat-sealed packages of suspected marijuana, the deputy wrote. The deputy also found six grams of suspected methamphetamine in Bongers’ pants pocket.

In all, the sheriff’s office collected 11 boxes that weighed a total of 340 pounds. The deputy noted that both substances were field tested and came back positive for THC as well as meth.

Bongers was arrested and booked into the Seward County Jail. His bond was set at 10 percent of $500,000, according to jail records.

Bongers is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance without a tax stamp. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Seward County Court on Nov. 20 at 9 a.m.
