A homicide investigation is underway in Montgomery after a 6-month-old boy died at a Birmingham hospital from his injuries earlier this month, authorities said Tuesday.

Montgomery police were notified Nov. 7 of a 6-month-old boy with life-threatening injuries who was taken to a Birmingham hospital, Maj. Saba Coleman said.

The boy was pronounced dead on Nov. 10, Coleman said. His body was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

The circumstances of the child’s death were not initially known, prompting a death investigation.

The new information determined the boy was the victim of a homicide, Coleman said.

No further details about how the child was injured or the case have been released.
