As you prepare for Thanksgiving Day festivities, double-check the carrots you buy for roasting your turkey, making gravy or caramelizing: The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and a leading carrot supplier have issued a RECALL of several brands of organic carrots (baby and whole) due to the potential E. coli contamination.

right Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)carrots are potentially linked to an E. coli outbreak in 18 states that has so far resulted in 15 hospitalizations and one death.

Beginning Nov. 16, Grimmway Farms recalled bags of vegetables that were shipped to retail stores in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. According to the FDA, the affected products should have already been removed from grocery store shelves, however, they may still be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. So, for peace of mind, you might want to dig through your produce drawer.

The affected products are:

  • Whole organic carrots that do not have a sell-by date printed on the bag but were available for purchase from August 14 to October 23, 2024.

  • Organic baby carrots with best before dates between September 11 and November 12, 2024.

Affected brands include 365, Bunny Luv, Cal-Organic, Compliments, Full Circle, Good & Gather, GreenWise, Grimmway Farms, Marketside, Nature’s Promise, O Organics, President’s Choice, Raley’s, Simple Truth, Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, Wegmans and Pantry healthy.

If you think you might have any of the affected carrots, the CDC and FDA recommend throwing them away and not eating them.
