Mahlon Schanzenbach, 68, has been identified by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office as the man who died in an apparent accidental shooting in Gunbarrel last Thursday.

According to Boulder County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Carrie Haverfield, there was a report of a man who shot himself while cleaning or repairing his gun just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday in the 4700 block of Jameston Street.

Schanzenbach was treated at the scene but was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.

The coroner’s office has not yet announced the official cause of death.
