SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – One person was hospitalized following a fire in Shreveport early Monday (Nov. 18).

The Shreveport Fire Department says it happened just minutes before 11 a.m. at a home in the 8400 block of David Drive in the Cedar Grove neighborhood. One of the people inside the home made the initial 911 call.

When firefighters got there, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the one-story wooden house.

One of the people who lived in the house was alerted to the fire by a smoke detector and managed to wake up a second person who lived there. Both people made it out of the home safely, officials say. The fire was extinguished in 13 minutes, with 24 firefighters working on the scene.

No firefighters were injured, but one resident was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Any resident in need of a working smoke detector should call SFD at 318-673-6740.
