Attack with over $5 machete injures two, PBSO says

A 58-year-old man has been accused of injuring two people in a machete attack after being asked to pay $5.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) reported that on Sunday at 7:33 p.m., they responded to a machete attack that left two people injured.

Upon arrival, deputies reported finding both victims with deep cuts on their arms, hands and other parts of their bodies.

The victims told deputies that Jeanton Permis was the attacker, claiming he threw a large machete at them.

The trouble began when one of the victims confronted Permis about a $5 debt, the probable cause statement explained. An argument ensued, which quickly escalated when Permis allegedly pulled out a machete and began swinging it.

According to the affidavit, during the altercation, the victim tried to defend himself and tried to fight Permis with the gun.

A witness told PBSO that a bystander tried to intervene, but ended up getting hurt in the process.

PBSO found Permis outside his home and took him into custody.

Permis was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
