Man arrested after remains found in Texas link to missing mother and child

A man has been arrested and charged with murder after human remains linked to a missing persons case were found in a Texas home.

Michael Dean Davis Jr., 27, was arrested and charged in Laredo, Texas on Nov. 12 in connection with the discovery of human remains found at a property in Buffalo, Texas on Oct. 22, the Sheriff’s Office said Leon County in a statement. release on facebook.

An investigation into an adult and a child who were reported missing on June 19 led to the home being searched, according to the release. The adult and child were last seen by their family in July 2022.

“On November 12th, Michael Dean Davis Jr. was successfully apprehended in Laredo on a charge of murder and transported to the Webb County Jail,” the sheriff’s office said.

The human remains were “positively identified” as those of a 27-year-old woman named Mahogany Washington, who was the mother of Davis’ 8-year-old son and the missing adult.Laredo Morning Times and KGNS.

Davis was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the human remains found on November 12.

The Laredo Police Department, U.S. Marshals and Sheriff’s Office were notified that Davis lived with his missing son at a residence near Cuatro Vientos in south Laredo. Laredo Morning Times reported.

The boy was found unharmed at the time of Davis’ arrest and was referred to Child Protective Services, according to the publication.

“Multiple agencies worked together to coordinate the arrest of Davis and the safe recovery of a missing and endangered child,” Laredo police said in their statement.

“The investigation revealed that Davis was possibly armed and was a possible threat to his son. “Due to the suspect’s violent tendencies and potential threat to law enforcement and the surrounding neighborhood, an action plan was created and executed on Nov. 12,” police added, according to Laredo Morning Times.

Police discovered several rifles, gas masks and a suit of armor inside the home where Davis and the boy were found, KGNS reported.

Davis received additional charges of child endangerment based on the poor condition of the home, according to the publication.

He is currently being held on $3,000,000 bond, according to the release. The investigation is ongoing.

The Laredo Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
