Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Alisson return dates and latest news

Liverpool could hardly have wished for a better start to the 2024/25 season under a new manager Arne Slott making an almost flawless start to his tenure.

Reds sit at the top of the Premier Leaguetop of the Champions League, qualified for the quarter-finals of the League Cup and have lost just once in all competitions – but with games against Real Madrid, Manchester City and Everton fast approaching, the Dutch manager will take nothing for granted .

Of particular interest to Slott will be the likely return dates for a host of injured players, including the first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnoldwho sat out the international break with a hamstring injury picked up during the win against Aston Villa. Here’s all the latest news and updates on possible return dates for players released from Liverpool.

Federico Chiesa

The Reds face Southampton away at the weekend and one player who could be fit to join the squad is Federico Chiesa. After a minor muscle injury during the international break in October, he was held out and Slot said earlier this month that he hoped he would “do things during the international break and join us afterwards” – so it should at least be close . .

Potential return: Southampton, November 24

Trent Alexander-Arnold

A hamstring problem is not to be taken lightly and the number 66 leaving the field after just 25 minutes against Villa suggests it was a fairly significant injury – but a prompt substitution seemingly helped limit any damage and the club was optimistic that it was not as bad as first feared, with only a few hopeless weeks. With the games ahead, they are unlikely to risk him against Saints if there is any doubt, so perhaps a midweek return is on the cards.

Potential return: Real Madrid, November 27

Alisson Becker

The club have been extremely sympathetic about Alisson’s progress following a much more serious hamstring injury suffered at Crystal Palace and despite the Brazilian posting on social media to show his rehab remains ongoing, it is not known when it might come back. Caoimhin Kelleher was an excellent replacement, but Slot reiterated that Alisson is No.1 when fit – whenever that might be.

Potential return: December 2024

Diogo Jota

Before the international break, Slot revealed it would be “a week or two” afterwards when Diogo Jota returned, following a heavy clash with Chelsea at the end of October. The games come quickly from this point on, so he could therefore be ready to play against any of Manchester City, Newcastle, Everton or Girona, who the Reds play against in just ten days.

potential return: Early to mid December

Harvey Elliott

As with Jota, there hasn’t been a constant update on the midfielder, with Elliott missing in action for the first few weeks of the Premier League after breaking a bone in his foot. Elliott is back on grass and running and training outside, but it’s likely to be a while before he can fully engage.

potential return: December 2024
