Joan Mir was again plagued by rear vibration problems at the Solidarity Barcelona MotoGP as the famous 30-year Repsol-Honda partnership ended without points.

Mir started 13th, narrowly missing out on a place in Q2 in Q1 on Saturday morning, but the vibration problems that have plagued the Spaniard in recent races returned once again in the race.

“Something very similar to previous GPs happened,” Mir said.

“The difference is that here, for some reason, we were able to be more competitive, but the problems we have in fast corners in terms of vibrations, destroys all the options you can have to follow the group in front.

“This is the reality. The bike vibrates in a way you can’t believe, the bike jumps. It’s something they (Honda engineers) need to understand. They don’t know why.

“So now the priority is to sort that out because it’s the thing that’s stopping me from being faster – that’s a bit of reality. The Japanese are working on it, but there is still a long way to go.”

Mir eventually crashed at the Solidarity Grand Prix, but said it was due to pushing too hard on the brakes.

“The crash was because I tried to do more on the brakes, that’s what I have to do, that’s the reality,” he said.

“It shows I’m not giving up, I want to be with those guys. I tried to follow the front group, I started well, taking some nice positions and fought back from 13th position.

“But the reality is that the problems in fast corners — I lose two-tenths every fast corner because I can’t turn, it’s huge. So I crash because I tried to (compensate) for it.”

‘Difficult’ for Honda to do better at Barcelona

Compared to the Mir, Luca Marini was more optimistic and simply admitted that the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya characteristics did not suit the RC213V in its current form.

“I think in Barcelona it’s difficult to do better than that for us,” Marini said after ending his first season with HRC with a 16th in Barcelona.

“It’s a very tough circuit. Certainly, if we could race on another track, maybe it could be a better position.”
