Father and son arrested for cash-in-transit robbery in Diepkloof

Police have arrested two men aged 25 and 53 in connection with a cash-in-transit theft on November 16 in Diepkloof.

It is reported that at about 16:00, a cash van on its way to collect cash from one of the shops in Diepkloof Market was intercepted by an old gray Mercedes Benz E class at the corner of Immink Road and Letsoaka Street in the Zone 3.

“The driver of the cash van lost control. The van rolled and was attacked by about 15 armed suspects who used explosives to break into the van, escaping with an undisclosed amount of money,” Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said.

“The driver of the truck suffered injuries to his right side, while a 21-year-old man was shot in the neck and is receiving medical attention. The windows of the nearby house were damaged by the blast.”

Sibeko also said during the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the suspects were father and son.

They were arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and defeating the justice after the vehicle was recovered at their residential address.

“SAPS urges anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward and assist with the investigation or contact their nearest police station or report the crime anonymously via Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the MySAPS app,” it said Sibeko.
