The smaller runway at Palm Springs International Airport was closed for hours Sunday after an unspecified “incident” involving a small plane.

All four people on the plane were safe and other flights continued to operate as normal as the airport’s main runway remained open, airport spokesman Jake Ingrassia said.

He did not say what time the incident happened or provide details. On Sunday afternoon, a moderately damaged plane was visible on the tarmac, nose down, right wing bent.

Ingrassia said shortly before 5 p.m. that the track had reopened.

He referred other questions to the National Transportation Safety Board. Spokesmen there could not be reached Sunday.

According to Federal Aviation Administration data about the tail number displayed on the plane, it is an SR22T manufactured this year by Cirrus Design Corp.
