Arjun Kanungo who gave us the party anthem Baaki Baatein Peene Baad is back in the headlines. This time for his fitness journey. The 34-year-old singer-songwriter he recently said in an interview about an unexpected health setback. Arjun Kanungo gained 30 kilograms after a ‘freak’ accident that resulted in a fractured hip. He also suffered an acute kidney injury.

With his weight reaching 117 kg and 31% body fat, Arjun Kanungo found himself at his heaviest ever. Reflecting on the challenges, the singer said, “18 months after the accident, I was the hardest of my life,” as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Arjun Kanungo admitted, “Looking at myself, I lost all confidence. I couldn’t face the room or even go outside. I felt like I lost a part of me.”

His journey to regain his health and confidence has been an uphill battle. It all started when Arjun Kanungo fell during a holiday in the Maldives. A hip injury resulted. While the doctors would have recommended a surgical intervention, the singer opted for another way. Instead, he committed to six months of intensive physiotherapy. However, the recovery process was confined to the bedroom with minimal physical activity, which led to significant weight gain. This period of limited movement contributed to his weight reaching 117 kg.

“Physiotherapy is not for everyone. It’s intense and it affected my mental and physical state,” said Arjun Kanungo. Once a national level basketball player and shooter, Arjun’s journey has been transformative. After months of hard work and dedication, he now weighs 87 kg with just 8 % body fat.

Earlier in a YouTube video, Arjun Kanungo said he took the ‘No Abs, No Music’ challenge to stay motivated and accountable throughout his weight loss journey. To speed up his progress, he adopted a vegan diet for six months.

Now that he is back on track, Arjun Kanungo reflects on his journey, saying, “It has given me a new perspective on life. I have become more humble and grateful for everything, especially the way my body is responding now. I’m finally happy with the way I look and feel.”
