Body in freezer case: Postmortem delayed, body still thawing, police say

KUALA LUMPUR: Coroners will need more time to perform an autopsy on the still-thawing body of a woman found in a freezer last week, police say.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said this was because the Universiti Malaya Medical Center team needed to thaw the internal organs before proceeding with the post-mortem investigation.

“The internal organs need time to thaw as the body has been in the freezer for some time,” he told a news conference at Brickfields police headquarters on Monday (November 18).

The remand for the 53-year-old suspect in the case will most likely be extended after the initial remand expires on Tuesday (November 19), he added.

“Doctors still need time to evaluate the suspect, including psychologically. Moreover, he has not fully recovered from an illness,” he said, without specifying.

So far, the police have recorded the statements of five people to help in the investigation, said ACP Ku Mashariman.

“We will investigate the matter thoroughly,” he said.

On Tuesday (Nov 12), the 53-year-old suspect’s action was discovered after police inspected his two-storey house in Taman OUG.

The suspect contacted police and told them he was not feeling well and had put his mother’s body in a freezer.

It is learned that the suspect had financial problems as well as a chronic health problem.

The case was classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and the body was sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Center for autopsy.

Police identified a personal disagreement as the motive behind the murder.
