Two police officers have been charged with murder, among other crimes, in the fatal shooting of three men in east Kingston last Sunday.

Corporal Mark Roye and Constable Kelby White were charged Sunday, Online observer understand.
Roye and White were each charged with three counts of murder; using a firearm to commit a crime; discharging a firearm within 40 meters of a public thoroughfare, placing an object at the scene of a crime and willfully lying to a police commissioner.

Kingston Eastern police officers, whose actions were being investigated by the Independent Investigations Commission (INDECOM), have been in custody since last week.

Police reported that around 2:30 a.m., while on patrol, they encountered a group of men along Windward Road and during the encounter, gunfire was exchanged, resulting in the deaths of three men. One of the officers suffered a non-life threatening injury and two illegal firearms were recovered from the scene.

It was also initially reported that the now-deceased men were suspected of being involved in a robbery ring.
