Julian Santiago Cortes Camelo was convicted of theft

New Windsor, NY – On Wednesday, Julian Santiago Cortes Camelo, 24, of Queens, was sentenced to four years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision. Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced the sentence in connection with Camelo’s guilty plea to second-degree burglary.

Court documents showed that Camelo, along with two co-defendants, trespassed into a residence in New Windsor on February 2. The defendants fled when police arrived, but were apprehended nearby, where the stolen items were also recovered. Camelo testified during his plea that he entered with the intent to commit murder.

District Attorney Hoovler praised the New Windsor Police Department’s prompt investigation and arrests. He emphasized the prosecution’s commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring community safety.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Christopher Kelly is handling the prosecution. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
