What to expect from Kennedy Cambridge with OSU women’s basketball

Athletes often say that their teammates are “like family.” For the Ohio State freshman phenom Cambridge milestonesthis is especially true.

A year before Cambridge joined the Buckeyes’ women’s basketball team, older sister Kennedy Cambridge transferred from Kentucky to Ohio State. Kennedy, now in her second season, redshirted the 2023-24 season, so the two made their Ohio State debuts against Cleveland State on Nov. 5.

I come from the bench inside Ohio State’s first two games of the seasonKennedy had 10 points and four steals in 35 minutes of play.

Fellow Buckeye Eboni Walker said Kennedy grew during the year she spent practicing. She likened it to cum Cotie McMahon developed when she joined the team the winter before her freshman season.

“Being able to really follow the program and practice with us and put all that into practice to hone it before actually going out in a game. I feel like it gives him a little bit of a competitive edge,” Walker said. “She can use that to her advantage.”

In addition to the obvious, previous connection Kennedy has with Jaloni, Kennedy also has experience playing alongside him fellow Kentucky transfer Ajae Petty.

Knowing Kennedy would play for the Buckeyes was one of the reasons Petty considered Ohio State once he entered the transfer portal. In the one season they played together, Petty saw firsthand Kennedy’s determination on defense. (Cambridge had 21 steals in 19 games with the Wildcats.)

“Everybody should expect somebody who’s going to come in and honestly sacrifice her body, give everything she’s got, that’s the kind of player she is,” Petty said. “She doesn’t make plays, she plays hard every time. … She’s athletic, just like Jaloni.”

For her part, Jaloni said that Kennedy already being on the Buckeyes’ list was not the reason she chose Ohio State. But Jaloni recognizes the benefits of having her sister as a teammate.

“I have someone who has already gone through this process,” Jaloni said. “Someone that if I had questions I had easy access to… If I need anything, I can always go to them for it.”
