Two held from Jabalpur MP in Donje kidnap-murder case; The third accused runs away

Pune: Two held from Jabalpur MP in Donje kidnap-murder case; The third accused runs away

Two men wanted in a kidnapping case in Pune were arrested from a train in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur on Saturday, police said.

Police suspect that the duo and their accomplice killed the victim.

Subham Sonwane (24) and Milind Thorat (25) were detained from the Godan Express train at Jabalpur railway station on the request of Pune police, Jabalpur GRP station in-charge Balram Yadav told PTI.

Another accused Yogesh Bhame, a resident of Donaje village in Pune’s Haveli tehsil, managed to escape.

Sonawane and Thorat are residents of Ahilyanagar in Maharashtra, the police officer said.

“The trio were wanted for the alleged kidnapping of a man and alleged murder. A case has been registered by the Pune police,” Yadav said.

The accused will be handed over to the Pune police, he said, adding that the operation was led by officials of the Government Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

The three are accused of abducting Vitthal Polekar, a 65-year-old entrepreneur and deputy sarpanch of Pune’s Donje village.

He was kidnapped two days ago and his relatives told the police that the crime was committed for a ransom of 2 million lei.

Pune police said some parts of the body were recovered near a village near the Panshet dam.

“A DNA analysis will confirm if the remains are Polekar’s. We traced two accused who were involved in the Jabalpur kidnapping. They were planning to flee to Nepal. We had already arrested one Rohit Bhame in the kidnapping case. Old enmity could be behind the kidnapping and murder,” he said.
