Victim’s family is speaking out after 3 women were seriously injured in a hit and run in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) — “He went through a terrible trauma,” Pamela Dupree said.

Pamela said her daughter, Jasmin Dupree, is physically and emotionally scarred after being hit by a vehicle and undergoing bladder reconstruction surgery.

“Her stomach hurts a lot. So I have to be there for her and I don’t know and I don’t care when I come back because this is my baby,” said Pamela, who currently lives in Pittsburgh, PA.

“Seeing my sister in that hospital bed just broke me,” said Jasmin’s sister, Joi Dupree. “It devastated me. I broke down and cried because I’ve never seen her in so much pain.”

Wilmington police said Jasmin, 35, and two other women, ages 33 and 36, were struck by a vehicle on the 1600 block of Delaware Avenue around 2 a.m. Saturday. All three were taken to hospital in critical condition. Police said the driver left the scene. Pamela said Jasmin lives nearby and was just hanging out with friends at the time of the accident.

“The driver just came out of nowhere and knocked them down like they were bowling pins. It was just unbelievable,” Pamela said.

“She didn’t deserve this, so I really hope they catch the people responsible for this,” Joi said. “It’s ridiculous. How could you do that to someone and keep them going?”

Family members said the 36-year-old victim was Jasmin’s longtime friend. They said he suffered multiple broken bones and brain swelling.

“He just doesn’t answer,” Pamela said. “Her family is there now. They came and visited Jasmin, and we just sat there and cried and held each other because we’re thankful they’re alive.”

“He has a good heart and it’s devastating to have this happen to him,” Joi said.

Eric Hoover, who lives across the street, said he heard the impact and was shocked by the result.

“It’s really terrible and that’s not the norm here,” Hoover said.

“It’s kind of hard to believe,” said Chaz Crews of Wilmington. “This is a beautiful area, I really don’t hear much about it around here.”

As detectives continue their search for the suspect, Pamela has this message: “You can run, but you can’t hide and you will be found because you will reap what you sow. One way or another, someone will turn you in, Pamela said. “When I hear this story of how these victims were affected and almost lost their lives, someone is going to have heart and compassion and expose whoever these people are.”
