A man is in the hospital after being injured in what police say was a targeted shooting Saturday morning in Oakville.

Halton Regional Police said the victim was shot outside his residence in the area of ​​Wavecrest St. and Creek Path Ave., in the city’s south end, around 10:30 a.m.

According to the police, a car was seen approaching the man’s home. An assailant was seen getting out of the car and immediately confronted the victim. During the ensuing interaction, the victim suffered a gunshot wound.

The gunman fled in the waiting vehicle, a white compact SUV, immediately after the shooting, police said. Investigators do not have the vehicle’s make, model or license plate.

The victim is being treated at the hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators said there was limited information about the shooter, who is described as a man wearing dark clothing and a mask covering the lower part of his face.

“This victim appears to have been targeted during this shooting, and members of the Halton Regional Police Major Crimes Bureau have taken over this investigation,” police said in a news release.

Police said the shooting is still an active investigation and they are looking to hear from anyone who may have witnessed or has knowledge of this incident.
