Police have arrested and charged a suspected burglar after an employee of a George Town business found a masked man with a crowbar trying to break into the premises.

According to a statement from RCIPS, officers responded to a report of a burglary at a location on Portland Road on Thursday morning.

Police said that after being interrupted by a member of staff, the thief fled on foot before getting into a nearby vehicle and driving off.

It was later found that the door to the premises had been damaged in order to gain entry, RCIPS said.

“Officers soon located the suspect vehicle and arrested a man in connection with the burglary. The man was searched and a quantity of ganja was also found on him,” the police said.

The 21-year-old man, from Bodden Town, has been formally charged with theft, damage to property and drug offences.

He appears in court on Monday, Nov. 18.
