12-year-old charged with attempted murder, armed robbery in separate incidents

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a 12-year-old in connection with a shooting and armed robbery.

The suspect now faces charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon by under 18, possession of a weapon during a crime of violence and armed robbery for his involvement in the two separate incidents.

The shooting was reported on Monday, November 11.

Authorities said just before 7 p.m., deputies were called to the 3600 block of Ranch Road.

When they arrived, they found a 14-year-old boy with gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

Investigators discovered that the suspect and four other juveniles were arguing when the suspect pulled out a gun and began firing, striking the victim.

The suspect was gone when the Richland County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene, but the 12-year-old reportedly surrendered to deputies on Friday.

The other four juveniles involved were not criminally charged.

Deputies connected the suspect to a separate armed robbery incident March 1 in the 2200 block of East Boundary Road.

The suspect is accused of robbing a man around 2pm that day.

The suspect, who has not been identified due to his age, will be referred to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
