He made public how much Newcastle United turned down for Miguel Almiron

In the January 2024 transfer window, it was reported that Newcastle United made it clear that Miguel Almiron was available for purchase.

There were rumors that he might move to a club in the Saudi Pro League, but nothing happened.

Then, in the summer transfer window of 2024, it looked like Miguel Almiron might return to MLS.

With claims of a bid by Charlotte FC. however, the winger remained at Newcastle United.

With just one Premier League start in over eight months, Miguel Almiron appears to be available for sale if someone makes the right offer for both NUFC and the player.

Now, Miguel Almiron’s agent has spoken out about the situation after the media claimed last week that River Plate were interested in signing him.

Daniel Campos also made public what (he says) Charlotte FC offered Miguel Almiron in the summer.

Daniel Campos, agent of Miguel Almiron, speaking to Radio La Red, quoted by TyC Sports – November 16, 2024:

“Although Miguel is not happy with the minutes he is getting in England, he wants to stay and fight for it at Newcastle.

“The manager (Eddie Howe) has always supported him.

“When he (Miguel Almiron) made a (transfer) request, he asked him not to leave.

“They (Charlotte FC) offered around $18 million.

“I arranged a contract with them, but the club rejected the proposal from the United States.

“He has a valid contract. The contract was renewed last year for another three years (until June 2027), and with the new owners of the club Miguel does not despair about money problems or making fools.

“If there is an offer from a team, we will go through the appropriate channels.”

With transfer stories, it’s always hard to know exactly what to believe.

Daniel Campos says Charlotte FC offered around $18 million, which equates to around £14.3 million at today’s exchange rate.

Would United really have turned that down?

Three months ago, the highly reliable Chris Waugh reported this on the situation after claiming that Newcastle were holding out for £16m.

Chris Waugh at The Athleticon why Newcastle United have decided they are wasting their time with Charlotte FC – 15 August 2024:

“Newcastle had a verbal agreement with the MLS side, but the deal collapsed after the player and his agent demanded higher wages.

In response, Charlotte reduced their offer to $9m (£7m), a figure that was deemed too low by Newcastle.

The Premier League club were open to selling the player, but only for the right price, and did not actively push for his departure. Newcastle are happy to keep the 30-year-old as part of their squad ahead of next season.
