Country singer Sundance Head was shot in the stomach Friday — accidentally by his own gun.

The Season 11 winner of NBC’s “The Voice.” The 46-year-old is expected to make a full recovery, according to his agent Trey Newman.

“He was setting up a gun on his ranch in Texas when it came out of its holster, hit the side of the Jeep and discharged in the stomach area, missing his vital organs. He is expected to make a full recovery,” his agent said. USA TODAY in an emailed statement Saturday.

According to a Facebook post Saturday morningSundance Head’s wife Misty said the singer was released from the hospital in Tyler, Texas late Friday night, adding that she “cannot express how grateful we are for all the messages, calls and prayers.”

She continued, “You all know she has a way with words and you know she’s not just going to have one song to write, but an entire album of this accident.”

In an earlier Facebook post published on FridayMisty gave fans an update on her husband’s condition.

“I got to the hospital and just now I physically laid eyes on him and heard his sweet voice. He’s in good spirits considering the last few hours. The kids are with him now. Prayers answered because the bullet didn’t do any internal damage, ” Sundance Head’s wife wrote in a Facebook post.

“Thanks for all the prayers,” she added. According to the post, Sundance Head was recovering in the hospital at the time.

“It wasn’t his hunting rifle and nobody shot him. He was exiting the vehicle, reaching for his 22, when he grabbed it, the 22 came out of its holster and hit the outside of the Jeep squarely and drove off. Sundance said it happened so fast and she could see the bullet dislodge,” his wife Misty wrote.

During his blind audition, the reality TV alum performed Otis Redding ballad “I’ve loved you too long.” Maroon 5’s lead singer Adam Levine and country music megastar Blake Shelton they pushed the red buttons and turned the chairs for Head. She joined gender mentor Shelton’s team and eventually won the singing competition.

A decade before winning “The Voice” in 2016, Sundance Head appeared on Season 7 of Fox’s “American Idol” in 2007, which Jordin Sparks won. He made it to the Top 16 of Season 7 before being eliminated.
