Pakistan’s food exports up 22% in four months: PBS

Pakistan recorded a 22 percent increase in food exports in the first four months of the fiscal year, according to a Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) report on Saturday.

According to the details, from July to October, food exports reached a total value of 2.36 billion dollars, an increase of 420 million dollars compared to the same period last year.

The increase is mainly driven by exports of rice, sugar and vegetables, marking steady growth for the fourth consecutive month.

– Rice exports –

Pakistan’s rice exports surged 52.53 percent to cross $1 billion in the four-month period. This includes $330 million worth of premium quality basmati rice, reflecting increased international demand.

– Sugar exports –

Sugar exports increased by 413%, generating revenues of $108.2 million.

– Produce –

Vegetable exports rose 37 percent to $91.1 million, while fruit exports rose 7 percent to $116.6 million.

– Meat and meat products –

Meat exports were up a modest 5 percent, totaling more than $160 million.

However, the report noted declines in exports of fish, pulses, spices, oilseeds and dry fruits.

In October 2024, food exports reached $748.4 million, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 12.77%. The steady growth in exports highlights the growing demand for Pakistani agricultural products globally.

This growth is expected to boost Pakistan’s economy by diversifying its export portfolio and capitalizing on its agricultural strengths.
