SCOUTING RAIDERS REPORT

It’s been a rough first year for head coach Antonio Pierce after being offered the full-time job following a promising end to the 2023 season when he held the interim job. The Raiders will enter Hard Rock Stadium on a five-game losing streak, which led to some changes in their offensive personnel during the bye, which included moving former Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin from senior offensive assistant to offensive line coach and the hiring of a former Dolphins offensive lineman. coordinator Norv Turner (his son Scott took over as OC) as senior advisor. The offense, which leads the league in turnovers and lost Josh Jacobs to free agency in the offseason and Davante Adams via trade earlier this season, has been a mess with Gardner Minshew at quarterback. The defense ranks 14th in total yards allowed, but took a big hit when Christian Wilkins went down with a foot injury.

THE BIGGEST REASON THE DOLPHINS WILL WIN…

As strange as it may sound, the Dolphins have a chance for their first winning streak of the season after their Monday night win over the Los Angeles Rams. They face a Raiders team with a strong chance of contending for the first overall pick. This is simply a mismatch in terms of talent level, as the Dolphins are simply better in every aspect of the game (except maybe special teams). Miami’s defense is coming off a strong effort against the Rams, especially with the pass rush, and there’s no reason to think they can’t match or surpass it in this one.

THE BIGGEST REASON YOU WILL LOSE THE DOLPHINS…

It shouldn’t be overstated as a factor, but the Raiders have a significant rest advantage in this game considering they are coming off a bye and the Dolphins are playing a week after Monday night’s game. The Raiders are brave under Pierce, even if they lack in the talent department, and they gave the Dolphins quite a battle last season before Miami was able to secure the win with Jalen Ramsey’s second interception of the game. Maxx Crosby is an elite player on the Raiders defensive line and has the ability to impact the game. The Raiders could find success offensively if they find a way to protect Gardner Minshew, and he gives the ball to two talented youngsters in Michael Mayer and rookie star Brock Bowers.

The Dolphins overcame a big hurdle with a win at SoFi Stadium on Monday night, and the hope is that it can spark a second-half playoff push. It’s obviously a long way to go, but the Dolphins have to deal with those teams on the schedule they’re supposed to, and that starts with the Raiders. While it’s fair to expect the Raiders offense to look more efficient with a new coordinator bye, the fact remains that this will never be an explosive unit. The Dolphins have yet to put together a complete game, with both offense and defense working throughout the game, and this would be a great time to start. We’d expect Maye’s Raiders to hang close in the first half, but the Dolphins should eventually get their first double-digit win since 2024.

Prediction: Dolphins 34, Raiders 13
