An armed robbery suspect, Godwin Emmanueladmitted stealing a police officer’s phone from a patrol van while being transported to the Osun State Police Command.

The 23-year-old was arrested along with two other suspects, Olajide Kareem and Mike Emmanuel.

The trio is accused of robbing residents and sexually assaulting a 65-year-old woman on the Ilesa-Osu expressway in Osun State. It is understood the woman was taking her husband to hospital when the attack took place.

Parading the suspects on Friday, the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, explained that the three suspects robbed the drivers and passengers of their belongings.

She said in one of the incidents, a bus driver was shot in the leg but was rushed to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Ile-Ife where he received treatment.

Speaking to news, Emmanuel explained how he managed to steal the phone from the police officer.

“I was arrested for armed robbery. When I was being transported to the Osogbo Police Command, in the police patrol van I was transported in, I stole a phone. I didn’t know it was a police call. I beg you, make one no vex.

“I told the police not to be mad at me. I don’t know when I did that. I took the phone to the police cell without them knowing. I removed the SIM card. I wanted to use the phone to call my folks because they didn’t know I was arrested for armed robbery.

“I have been here for about two months. They later came to search my cell and found my phone. Please tell them to forgive me. I won’t do it again.”
