Amanda Serrano Accuses Katie Taylor of Cheating As Irish Woman Booed | Box | Sports

Amanda Serrano has made accusations against Ireland’s Katie Taylor, claiming she deliberately headbutted her during their intense rematch in Texas.

Despite the controversy, Taylor successfully defended her world light welterweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Serrano at AT&T Stadium on Friday, with the judges scoring the bout 95-94 in her favor.

The Puerto Rican fighter sparked controversy in the post-fight Netflix interview, accusing Taylor of cheating and intentional headbutting. Serrano suffered a severe cut above the eye in the fourth round, which was ruled an accidental headbutt.

Taylor lost a point in the eighth round after repeated warnings against heading. After the match, Serrano stated, “I knew if we went to the referees it would be a little shady.

“I chose to be great. I moved up three divisions. It is what it is. I’m a featherweight, man. She kept headbutting me. It’s what she does.

“It’s not just my fight, it’s all her fights. It’s what she does.” In response, Taylor defended himself, saying, “I certainly didn’t fight dirty. It gets rough out there. It was an absolute war, a war.

“This is an amazing moment in women’s boxing. Thank God for another amazing fight.”

The fight began with both fighters trading blows before Taylor landed a powerful punch midway through the opening round.

Although Serrano quickly recovered and landed a vicious counter of her own as the bell rang, the pace picked up in the second round as Taylor began to dominate some heavy exchanges.

Throughout the third round, Serrano pushed forward, repeatedly backing Taylor into the ropes, but the Irishwoman’s veteran defense allowed her to land more shots from underneath and keep the pressure on her opponent.

Both women connected with heavy shots throughout the fourth round, with Serrano receiving a severe gash on the forehead from an accidental headbutt.

The injury worsened in the next round, prompting the referee to stop the action in the sixth round so the ringside doctor could examine it.

After the bout was given the green light to continue, the seventh round saw non-stop action with both women rocked by heavy shots but neither showing signs of letting up.

Early in the eighth round, Serrano connected with a series of vicious jabs before Taylor received a warning for leading with his head.

Taylor fought back with a flurry of punches, but was penalized a point after repeated warnings from the referee. In the ninth round, both fighters landed heavy shots, however, Serrano appeared to be hampered by a cut above her eye, causing her to miss a few powerful shots.

In the final round, both women went hard, each landing crucial shots before time expired, with Taylor cornering Serrano.

After the bell, Taylor and Serrano hugged, but the predominantly pro-Serrano crowd expressed their displeasure when the result was announced.

The bout was a brutal 10-round exchange, echoing their previous classic at Madison Square Garden in 2022.

After the bell, Taylor and Serrano hugged, however, the announcement of the result was met with disapproval from the predominantly pro-Serrano crowd.
