One of two teens charged in 2023 slaying of Washington high school student found guilty

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – One of two teenagers charged in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old Washington high school student last year he was found guilty by a jury.

Esequiel Trejo Jr., 18, of South Bend, was found guilty Friday of accessory to murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the July 10, 2023, death of Luis Hernandez-Acosta.

The police were called early that morning to a shooting in the 500 block of S. Carlisle Street. Hernandez-Acosta was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to court documents, video surveillance near the area showed two individuals running from the scene and hiding in a yard. Investigators identified them as Trejo and Edwin Torres-Becerril.

Torres-Becerril was charged last July with Hernandez-Acosta’s murder. His next hearing is scheduled for November 25.

Trejo Jr. will be sentenced on December 11.
