Man arrested, charged after breaking into a church

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man has been arrested and charged after breaking into a church, according to an affidavit.

Greg Black, 54, faces several charges, including burglary, after breaking into a church on Wilhagen Road.

The affidavit said officers responded to the area after the victim called and said they could see a man inside the church and that no one should be on the property.

When officers arrived, they found the doors locked and no signs of forced entry. Police then said they saw Black coming down the stairs inside the church and immediately ran back when he noticed the officers.

Officers gave verbal commands to Black to exit the building.

The victim then arrived on scene and unlocked the side gate for officers.

When they got to the back of the building, officers discovered a large hole had been broken into the exterior wall. The affidavit said the hole went through metal siding and drywall, allowing Black to enter the church.

The victim told police the hole had never been there before.

A K-9 was then brought to the scene and a search for the suspect began. Black was found hiding in a closet.

The affidavit said the K-9 tried to bite Black, but he shoved a backpack in the K-9’s face. However, the K-9 was able to catch him.

Officers searched Black and his backpack and found bolt cutters and a small bag of white powder. The victim’s laptop and camera were also found in the backpack along with food from the church.

A small glass “crack” pipe was also found on Black.

After being arrested, Black was taken to a hospital for treatment for the K-9 bite, the affidavit states.

Black was released from the hospital and booked into the Davidson County Jail on charges of possession of burglary tools, burglary, theft of property over $1,000, less than $2,500, vandalism over $2,500, less than 10,000 of dollars, controlled holding. substance and evading arrest.
