We Move FWD: Youth Social Action Projects in North London

Lets Unite for Autism has campaigned for the inclusion of young black SEND people in society and overcoming the barriers they face to participation. The young people from the project were invited to no. 10 Downing Street to share the benefit of their social action with a special adviser to the Prime Minister. They also created a series of podcasts to share their journey and why they felt passionate about this cause.

The funding has enabled the charity to provide targeted support to disadvantaged communities, focusing on therapeutic and educational interventions. They have provided emotional and psychological support to young black autistic individuals who often experience heightened anxiety, depression, or social isolation due to the intersection of race and disability. Research shows that black children are often diagnosed with autism later than their peers due to barriers to accessing healthcare, misdiagnosis and stigma. Their work addressed these intersectional challenges and promoted inclusive practices that combat forms of discrimination.
