Thieves hit 2 dozen Galleria-area public warehouse storage units, victims include domestic violence charity

HOUSTONscammers broken into 25 storage units inside a public warehouse in The Galleria area of Houston.

One of the victims is Fresh Spirit Wellness, a domestic violence advocacy group.

The group’s leader, Dr. Conte Terrell, learned of the break-in on Thursday after a call from the warehouse manager.

According to Terrell, the manager said someone or a group of people broke into the premises early Thursday morning.

“He said, ‘I just want you to know there’s been a break and I’ve been heavily vandalized at this location and 25 units have been affected and your unit is one,'” Terrell explained. “It’s very disheartening.”

Inside the storage unit, thieves made off with toys for children in domestic violence situations, electronics and even prizes the group uses at their annual gala.

Gage Goulding: “What was the total value of everything that was lost here?”

Dr. Conte Terrell: “So far, at least $10,000.”

This is just one of 25 units that have been broken into.

“I feel very violated. It just wasn’t the appeal I was expecting when I put this stuff out here,” she said. “We naturally thought they would be safe here.”

The unit has security cameras. However, Terrell says the video the manager showed her is not very descriptive and only shows what she describes as two “suspicious” men.

Fresh Spirit Wellness offers Christmas gifts to children in domestic violence situations. Now they are looking to replace what was taken from them.
