Former Huntsville employee Heather Spier charged with theft

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Waffle) – A former Huntsville city employee accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a youth sports league will go on trial.

A Madison County grand jury indicted Heather Spier for first-degree larceny.

Investigators say she embezzled about $73,000 from the Huntsville Eastern League.

The Huntsville Eastern League is not owned or operated by the city of Huntsville, but the city provides the league with the league to help keep costs low for families.

City leaders have never said what Spier’s job was with the city, and Eastern League officials have not said what her role in the league was.

Spier is due to go on trial in June next year. She is currently free on bail.
