POTTSTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) — A police officer was shot and killed Friday in Pottstown, Montgomery County.

It happened around 4:30 pm on the 200 block of Chestnut Street.

A lieutenant at the scene tells WFMZ that officers were called to a disturbance.

The lieutenant says a suspect then got into a fight and that’s when a shot was fired and struck the officer.

Sources tell Action News that surgery is required, but the officer’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Police say a suspect is in custody.
