This public appeal comes as part of an investigation into what police have described as an advance tax scam involving the fraudulent sale of tickets to music and sporting events in the GTA.

In a press release issued Friday, police said a comprehensive investigation from February to October was launched after receiving multiple reports alleging a suspect fraudulently sold concert and sporting event tickets to a victim unsuspecting, masquerading as legitimate and reputable ticketing companies. .

Investigators believe the victims of these incidents are suffering a financial loss of more than $38,000.

An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for Jaspal Singh Thiara, 37, of Toronto. He is wanted for fraud over $5,000 and failure to comply.

Thiara was already on bail for similar charges.

“Given the increased awareness of the concerts in the GTA this week, it is believed that they are still actively searching for additional unsuspecting victims,” ​​police said in the news release.

Durham Regional Police said officers responded to a sexual assault call in 2018 in which a woman was leaving a bar in downtown Whitby in the early hours of the morning and was looking for a ride for services to go home when a man approached her in his vehicle. and offered a ride.

Police said the man drove the woman to an empty parking lot where he sexually assaulted her before dropping her off near a store in the Courtice area.

At some point this year, police reportedly received evidence that led them to investigate a suspect who lives in Oshawa.
